You are probably reading this email on an IBM-Microsoft type computer. Why not an Amiga computer? (remember them?) Back in the early 90’s Amiga had a operating system equivalent to windows 95. When I changed to a IBM- Microsoft based system I spend good money on what I considered a worse system. Why? Because what I had was dying as a brand, Microsoft had won. Microsoft did not have the best system, what they had was the best marketing plan.
Yet I hear often “I don’t need a marketing Plan, I do a good job and my customers just come”
Here’s the good, and bad, news– that’s still a marketing plan, It’s called hope for the best. Turn this into a plan to grow your business.
One way to think of marketing is the way people find out about your business, and then make contact with you.
Some common Marketing Strategies:
Word of mouth
Internet & e-mail
Demonstrations/ Test drives
Most of us use multiple strategies, without even thinking about it.
Where I often find a business struggling is they are relying on one or two strategies and have no plan of how their marketing is managed.
How to manage marketing:
How did they find out about me?
What am I selling?
What is the benefit this gives my customer?
What is different about me/my product?
Who buys from me?
Why come to me not someone else?
Why do some customers leave?
How to find out:- ASK YOUR CUSTOMERS! Ask new customers “how did you find out about me” Ask Current customers the other questions, it’s not about what you think, its what they think!
2.Know the Numbers:
What % find you which way?
How much does each method cost per customer?
Change methods and monitor results
Get rid of the methods that are not cost effective
5.Do more of what works:
What’s the magic Key?
Plan, measure and test your marketing.
